Tailored Disability Housing

New Kitchen at Carmarthen

Late last year, Sylvanvale Foundation undertook renovations at two sites in Menai.

The planned renovations were extensive. They included new flooring throughout the properties, new kitchen joinery, full bathroom fit outs and painting all interior walls. Safety and improved accessibility were major considerations, so floors were levelled, and skirting and metal lips that had been getting in the way were removed. An induction stovetop and specially designed drawers were also installed in the kitchens – and the list goes on.

Each change was carefully thought out; the paramount focus being the needs of the people living there.

Due to the scale of the renovations, residents needed to move out of their homes and into temporary Sylvanvale accommodation for around 10 weeks. This was a huge undertaking but everyone took it in their stride, remaining upbeat.

Throughout the entire process, the project team collaborated closely and kept everyone informed about what was happening. By mid-December, all residents had moved back into their homes, ahead of schedule. The feedback from the people living in the properties and families has been overwhelmingly positive, with people remarking that the improvements were well beyond what they had expected.

The upgrades are part of the Sylvanvale Foundation’s commitment to ensuring that people with disability live in housing that enables them to live their best lives.
